'Pillars Past' - A piece of public art commissioned by Sustrans as part of the 'Way of the Roses' sculpture trail. This installation represents aspects of the history of Pateley Bridge and consists of three figures emerging from rough sandstone Pillars. Johnson wellfeild quarries kindly donated the stone and many members of the local community helped bring this monumental sculpture to life. A shepherd, lead miner and a monk represent the industrial, agricultural and monastic past. The concept behind the work is for the viewer of the piece to stand in the centre and have these three figures looking in at you. The project was documented by local film maker and photographer Paul Harris.
